Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 12 months, and may last forever, depending on the original condition. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. There are 2 main types of retention devices, fixed (bonded) or removable.

Fixed Retainer

This type of retainer is bonded to the inside of the teeth. You must floss around it and pay close attention to make certain that it is intact.

Removable Retainer

This retainer type can be removed for eating, and for brushing your teeth. When removed, the retainer must be brushed prior to placing back into the mouth. Removable retainers must be placed in the protective case when they are not being worn, so that they are not broken, damaged or lost. They also must be kept away from animals/pets.

You will be given instructions as to how much wear is needed for your retainers, and for how long. These instructions are essential in maintaining your beautiful, timeless smile.
