Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically misalignments of the jaws and the teeth. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing or incising, and uneven tooth wear, as well as aesthetic problems. Orthognathic surgery corrects the jaw disharmony and in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile and teeth.
Using the latest in digital imaging technology, we will demonstrate the overall functional and aesthetic benefits of orthognathic surgery. State-of-the-art materials such as titanium plates and miniature screws provide stability, strength and predictability to your treatment (after the surgery). Advances in technology, procedures and equipment reduce post-surgical recovery time, allowing patients to return to their normal routines sooner after the surgery. Wiring of the mouth shut is no longer necessary with rigid screws and plates used by our oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Orthognathic surgery is recommended if orthodontic treatment alone cannot correct the problem with the teeth and jaws. Dr. Grubisa will determine if orthognathic surgery is the correct treatment option for you, and refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for consultation. As a team, Dr. Grubisa, and the surgical specialist will provide you with treatment alternatives for the most ideal treatment and results.
